Digital signage for campsites and outdoor hospitality
Today's activities, weather, pool and snack bar hours, alerts. Informing a clientele that changes every week, without reprinting the programme every Saturday.
A clientele that turns over every week
Campsites face an unusual information challenge: a large share of guests discover the site on Saturday and leave the following Saturday. Everything the team takes for granted — where the snack bar is, what time the pool opens, when the evening event happens — has to be explained over and over.
The display takes this repetition off your hands. Today's programme at reception, service hours, the site map, tomorrow's activities: this is information that's stable in form and variable in content, exactly what the time-based schedule handles well. The week's programme is prepared once, triggers day by day, and replays next season with adjustments.
Weather deserves a permanent spot: it's the first question of the day at an outdoor venue, and the widget updates it on its own.
Alerting fast, across a large site
A campsite spans several hectares, with scattered teams and guests who aren't checking email on holiday. A forecast storm, a pool closure, a water outage, a last-minute change to an event: the information has to reach reception, the bar, the snack bar and the events hall at the same time.
The emergency alert takes over every screen on the site in one action, regardless of what's playing, and is withdrawn the same way. On a site where weather-related safety is a real concern, this alone justifies the installation.
Hardware: the outdoors doesn't forgive
This is what sets the sector apart from others: some locations are semi-outdoor — a covered terrace, a shelter, the pool area.
- An indoor screen placed under a shelter suffers from humidity, temperature swings and insects. You need either a screen built for outdoor use, a weatherproof enclosure, or a genuinely enclosed spot like reception or the bar.
- Ambient light is strong even under cover: plan for high brightness, in the same range as a storefront, from 1,500 cd/m².
- The network is often the weak link on a large site. Offline playback avoids a black screen: content is cached locally and playback continues through a Wi-Fi outage.
- Seasonality is handled without commitment: a fleet can be scaled down for the off-season and reactivated at opening.
Questions fréquentes
Can a screen be installed outdoors, under a shelter?
Not with an indoor screen: humidity, temperature swings and insects will wear it down. You need a screen built for outdoor use or a weatherproof enclosure. Under cover, also plan for high brightness, at least around 1,500 cd/m².
How do I warn the whole campsite about a storm or a closure?
Through the emergency alert: the message takes over every screen on the site in a single action, regardless of what's playing, and is withdrawn the same way. It's faster than doing the rounds of every reception point.
What happens if the site's Wi-Fi goes down?
Screens keep playing: content is cached locally and updates resume once the connection is back. On a large site with patchy network coverage, this makes a real difference.
Can licences be paused out of season?
Yes, licences have no commitment: you add or remove devices at any time, which lets you scale the fleet down for closing and reactivate it at opening. Three screens are free with the Free plan, with the features of the Premium plan — a "Powered by Smart-Signage" badge appears after 30 days. Beyond that, count on €9 excl. VAT per screen per month, or €99 excl. VAT per year, with no commitment. Room tablets, remote controls and e-paper labels fall under the Lite licence at €5 excl. VAT per device per month. From 50 devices of the same type, a discount becomes negotiable.
