Digital signage for gyms and fitness clubs

Class schedule shown continuously, safety instructions, coaches and partners highlighted. What to broadcast in a gym, where to place screens, and how to stop the front desk from answering the same question a hundred times.

The class schedule, the only information people really want

In a club, one question comes up at the front desk more than any other: "what time's the next class?" A printed schedule taped to the wall answers it poorly — it's out of date the moment a coach changes, and no one reads it past the first week.

A screen placed in the entrance, at eye level, showing today's and tomorrow's schedule, absorbs most of those questions. What matters is timing: in the morning, highlight the evening classes members can still decide to attend; late afternoon, switch to the next morning's classes.

Where to place screens, and what to put on them

Three locations carry most of the value, and they don't call for the same content.

  • Reception: schedule, news, referral offers. It's the only spot where members really read, because they're waiting.
  • The weights floor: short, silent content — sound can't compete with the music. Safety instructions, correct form for a movement, reminders to re-rack the weights.
  • Group class studios: the upcoming class, the coach's name, the duration. A screen that reassures anyone walking into the right room.

Sponsors and internal communication

A club equipped with screens has real advertising inventory: dietitian, physiotherapist, supplements shop, local businesses. A local partner is often happy to pay for a monthly slot, which largely covers licence costs. You keep control of the slots: the playlist alternates your content with partners', in whatever proportions you decide.

Internally, the display is also useful for announcing an exceptional closure, equipment maintenance or a schedule change — the information then reaches every screen at once, including changing-room screens if you've equipped them.

Hardware, and operating hours

The fitness sector's real constraint isn't brightness but runtime: a club open from 6am to 11pm runs its screens seventeen hours a day, seven days a week. Consumer panels are built for home use of around six to eight hours; beyond that, the warranty doesn't cover it. In a 24/7 club, the question doesn't even come up: you need a professional screen.

The schedule can still cut down wear by turning the display off during quiet overnight hours, which extends panel lifespan and lowers power use. On the installation side, weights-floor screens are best mounted high, out of reach of weights and splashes, and powered by an Android box rather than the TV itself — a box can be swapped in five minutes, a built-in TV can't.

Questions fréquentes

Does the class schedule update automatically?

The schedule is shown through content you update from the platform, and changes are pushed in real time to every relevant screen. You can also plan the week's schedules ahead of time using time-based schedule recurrences.

Is sound useful on screens in a gym?

Rarely on the weights floor: background music drowns everything out, and content needs to stay understandable without sound. Plan for subtitled videos or still visuals readable in three seconds. Sound still makes sense in a closed studio during a class.

Can I sell advertising space to partners?

Nothing stops you on the platform side: you build a playlist that alternates your content with partners', in whatever proportions you decide, with dedicated time slots if needed. Many clubs fund their licences this way.

How many screens for a mid-sized club?

Three screens cover the essentials: reception, weights floor, class studio. Three screens are free with the Free plan, with the features of the Premium plan — a "Powered by Smart-Signage" badge appears after 30 days. Beyond that, count on €9 excl. VAT per screen per month, or €99 excl. VAT per year, with no commitment. Room tablets, remote controls and e-paper labels fall under the Lite licence at €5 excl. VAT per device per month. From 50 devices of the same type, a discount becomes negotiable.
